Caesar.

This is coolbert:

From Fabius:

"Perhaps the finest example of the genius amateur is Caesar."

Go here and see the wiki entry for the Gallic Wars.

Then go here and you can find a site that allows you to download for free, yes free, translations of all eight books - - "The Gallic Wars" by Julius Caesar.

"This military campaign is painstakingly described by Julius Caesar himself in his book Commentarii de Bello Gallico, which still is the most important historical source. This book is also a masterwork of political propaganda, as Caesar was keenly interested in manipulating his readers in Rome."

To what extent Caesar was AN INSPIRED AMATEUR OR DID HE HAVE A "PROFESSIONAL STAFF" THAT HE LISTENED TO WITH SERIOUSNESS I CANNOT SAY!! Perhaps a combination of both??!!
