Invasion USA VI. - - Guardsmen
This is coolbert:
Here is an incident that was widely reported in the media [January 2007]. Apparently erroneously so too.
A group of National Guardsmen, manning a crossing site on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, were confronted by a group of armed men, apparently drug smugglers. The Guardsmen, reportedly UNARMED, were said to have beat a retreat, abandoning the border crossing site, as protocol demanded. So the story was reported!
"Guardsmen Overrun at the Border":
"A U.S. Border Patrol Entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico."
"According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat."
This is all part and parcel of the initiative taken by President Bush in May of 2006. Send thousands of National Guardsmen to the southern U.S. border.
[originally the number was going to be 6,000 troops, increased later to anywhere from 10,000-13,000 Guardsmen? I am not sure of the exact figures.]
Was hailed in some circles and a demonstration of resolve on the part of the U.S. government to FINALLY secure the U.S. border with Mexico. A perception was created of ARMED National Guardsmen patrolling the border, deterring and preventing drug smuggler, terrorists, and illegal aliens from defying American law and sovereignty.
This perception was incorrect on many counts. Guardsmen deployment is to BE DONE OVER A PERIOD OF EIGHTEEN MONTHS! UNITS TO BE ROTATED IN AND OUT ON A REGULAR BASIS. AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT ONLY A SMALL PORTION OF THE TOTAL 10,000-13,000 GUARDSMEN TASKED FOR “BORDER PATROL” DUTY WOULD ACTUALLY BE ON STATION!!.
[the perception among the general public that 10,000-13,000 Guardsmen are going to be deployed to the border en masse’ is nothing more than a mirage!!]
IN THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE CASES, THE NATIONAL GUARDSMEN WERE TO BE UNARMED, PERFORMING LOGISTICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS ON BEHALF OF THE U.S. BORDER PATROL!!
* Ground reconnaissance activities.
* Airborne reconnaissance activities.
* Logistical support.
* Translation services in training.
* Administrative support services.
* Technical training services.
* Emergency medical assistance and services
* Communications services.
* Rescue of aliens in peril.
* Construction of roadways, patrol roads, fences, barriers, and other facilities.
[deployment here is defined in a very broad and general sense. A National Guard unit could “deploy” from home station, NOT even approach the border in the most remote fashion, and still be counted as being on “Border Patrol”!!]
George Orwell would have defined the using of the word “deploy” in this sense as being a perfect example of how governments use “official speak” to mislead the public!!??
As to the “incident” where U.S. National Guardsmen beat a retreat when confronted with armed persons illegally crossing the border, this TOO seems to be misreported.
There WAS a border crossing, illegally, by a gang of armed men, crossing from Mexico into the U.S. A gang, if they can be called that, apparently heavily armed, wearing MILITARY uniforms, in tactical military formation, deploying as if in COMBAT!
This illegal border crossing WAS observed by a group of U.S. National Guardsmen occupying what is termed an EIT [Entry Identification Team] site. Observations made continuously using night-vision devices and followed as the armed gang proceeded in a cold-blooded fashion toward the EIT site. The GUARDSMEN WERE ARMED, DID NOT BEAT A RETREAT, OBSERVED AND REPORTED THE INCURSION ACCORDINGLY, THE INTRUDERS FROM THE MEXICAN SIDE OF THE BORDER RETURNING FROM WHENCE THEY CAME, SHOTS NOT BEING FIRED!!
[this sounds as if a reconnaissance in force to me. A probe by the armed gangs of the Latin American drug-narcoticos to test the norteamericanos!!]
"reconnaissance in force
(DOD, NATO) An offensive operation designed to discover and/or test the enemy's strength or to obtain other information."
“it is not so much the reality that counts, it is the perception of reality that counts” - - Jesse Jackson.
NOT in the case of U.S. National Guardsmen deployed to the border with Mexico.
coolbert.

The3e situation on the southern border is not like a flood where you send out guardsmen with sandbags. It's an invasion of hostiles who should be facing soldiers not sandbag social workers.
