Peiper.

This is coolbert:

From a comment to the blog:

"Who was that Waffen SS predator, the one nervy enough to make France his home after committing wartime atrocities? Good men and women with long memories saw to it he got a just reward."

This was Joachim Peiper.

Joachim Peiper (January 30, 1915 - July 13, 1976)

From the wiki entry on Peiper:

"a senior Waffen-SS officer and commander in the Panzer campaigns of 1941-1945 and a convicted war criminal."

"Peiper was a skilled combat leader and took part in a number of major battles of the war. His men were fiercely loyal to him, and he was regarded by many as a 'charismatic leader.'"

"On the East front Peiper and his men got among the German army a reputation of merciless soldiers since they had burned several Russian villages and killed their inhabitants."

"the Kampfgruppe Peiper killed American POWs at several places, the most notable being the Malmedy massacre. Moreover, in the area of Stavelot, more than 80 Belgian civilians (including women and children) were killed by units under Peiper’s command."

"Peiper was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging, as were many of his men."

"the sentences of the Malmedy defendants were commuted to life and then to time served, and Peiper was released on parole from prison at the end of December 1956, after serving 11 and a half years."

"Peiper has also been accused of, but never prosecuted for, the Boves Massacre."

[Boves, Italy.]

"After release Peiper eventually went to live in Traves, Haute-Saône, France, and supported himself as a translator. Following explicit death threats, Peiper was murdered in a fire bomb attack on his house on July 13, 1976. The attackers were never prosecuted, but were suspected to be former French Résistants."

I can recall the news accounts of this attack that led to the death of Peiper. And from the start, something here did not seem right. Peiper did kill several of his attackers before being killed himself. It was thought at the time that French communists were blame for the attack, but that was never fully established.

That Peiper even dared live in France was surprising to me. I would have thought that was the last place he would have moved to, much less settled in as he did.

I have thought about this and can suggest that perhaps Peiper was working for an intelligence agency of some country, the identity of which will forever be a mystery. It could be one of many intelligence services, even the CIA!! Working in some capacity, doing what, I cannot say. My guess in the matter.

It's curious that he was not officially a member of the Nazi party, yet after the war, he's quoted as saying he was a Nazi, and still is.
