This is coolbert: The Soviet Union did have a large credible navy. No longer the threat it was. Soviet Navy did have some serious drawbacks. Had four major fleets, Baltic, Northern, Pacific, and Black Sea. None of these were able to support the other. And, if the Baltic, Black, and to an extent the Pacific Fleet tried to sortie, they had to pass through inhibiting choke points that exposed them terribly to attack. In Czarist times, the Russian fleet was considered to be the worst duty of all the Czarist military services. Most harshest and brutal [Potemkin incident]. This same attitude continued during the Soviet era too [somethings never change]. More on this later.
coolbert.
