Soldiers?

This is coolbert:

Gladiators - - as soldiers??

Read here about: The Moyamensing Street Killers .

Thanks here to Al Nofi, CIC # 156, through StrategyPage.

As I have stated in previous blog entries, criminals just do not make for good soldiers, under any circumstances. The character and mind set is already established. Create more problems than they are worth! "The Moyamensing Street Killers" is an account of AN ENTIRE STREET GANG FROM THE TIME OF THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR THAT ENLISTED AS A GROUP TO FIGHT. Caused all sorts of mischief where ever they went [Pittsburgh, New Orleans], BUT NOT ON THE BATTLEFIELD!!!

Their contribution to the war effort was virtually nil. Well, that says it all, doesn’t it!!

[I recall during the Vietnam War, Sonny Barger, “President” of the Hell Angel’s motorcycle gang, sent a telegram to President Johnson [one President to another] offering the services of the gang in Vietnam. With two provisos. One - - that the motorcyclists be allowed to bring their bikes with them, and two - - that the “Angels” be allowed to stay together as a unit!! Sonny waited for his response - - and as you might expect, NONE was had!!]

With regard to the Hell's Angels:

"the name 'Hells Angels' was inspired by the name of the U.S. Air Force 303rd Bombardment Groups, a military unit formed in the early years of World War II."

"the official 'Deathshead' insignia [of the Hell's Angels]. . . The colors and shape for the early-style jacket emblem (prior to 1953) was copied from the insignias of the 85th Fighter Squadron and the 552nd Medium Bomber Squadron."

coolbert.
