Suicide?

This is coolbert:

This is the type of headline that catches your attention. I recall hearing just the snippet of a mention of this on the radio yesterday. It did make me wonder what was going on here? Why would such a thing even be contemplated? Is something afoot that we particularly have to worry about?

"Report: British Fighter Pilots Asked to Consider Suicide Mission Against Terrorists"

"LONDON — British fighter pilots were asked by a military chief to consider flying suicide missions as a last resort to stop terrorists, the defense ministry acknowledged Tuesday."

This military chief is British Air Vice-Marshal David Walker.

The Air Vice-Marshal DID pose this question regarding suicide to his air crews.

However, the question is being posed in hypothetical terms.

Terms that must be understood with qualifications:

* Terrorists ON THE WAY TO A TARGET ARE BEING PURSUED.

* WEAPONS FAILURE has occurred on the part of the aircrew [pursuers].

Walker however:

"did not say he would order crews on kamikaze missions"

Right! Exactly! The hypothetical context is what is important here. The Air Vice-Marshal IS NOT some fevered Japanese commander at the end of World War Two deliberately encouraging his men to seek death in combat by suicide. This is LAST RESORT STUFF!!

Is not reported that way or appreciated by the general public either for what it is.

Hypothetical situation and NOT explicit orders TO GO ON SUCH A MISSION!

coolbert.
