Fence.

This is coolbert:

The photo accompanying this blog entry is of the proposed fence [barrier] to be built along the border with Mexico.

To stop the deluge of illegal aliens crossing the border from Mexico to the U.S.

This fence is similar to, but not exactly the same, as the fences now being built between Israel and the Palestinians, or the Indians and the Bangladeshis.

* Is a double fence, high, with wire on top.

* Has the two anti-tank [anti-vehicular] ditches.

* Has the roadway between the two fences for friendly vehicular traffic.

* Has the double razor wire, piled high, on either side of the fence.

* Surveillance cameras and motion detectors.

I hope this fence [barrier], if built, is properly thought out in advance. We can profit from the experience of the Israeli and Indian in this matter.

I would hope that consideration would be given to:

* Length would extend the ENTIRE distance of the border between the U.S. and Mexico.

* Plan for proper funding to build and MAINTAIN. MAINTAIN more or less forever.

* Assidiuously patrolled. By military troops, not just quasi-military. Armed forces prepared to use lethal force if an when necesary.

[it is already dangerous enough on the border as it is. Building a fence WILL create a lot more anger and hate [it already exists!!], that will manifest itself in violence.]

I would also like consideration be given to including these items with the fence.

* A plowed area on the U.S. side of the border. Sprayed with persistent chemical of an irritating but non-lethal nature. Persons making it through the fence would leave foot prints for pursuers to follow. Plus the persistent agent, when stirred up by intruders, would get on their skin and in the eyes and lungs. NOT harming, but making it VERY uncomfortable.

* A dog run. Attack dogs leashed to a wire running parallel to the fence. Dogs bred to sense by sight and scent intruders. Vicious animals that are probably better than any person or electronic device in sensing villains trying to cross the barrier. And NOT afraid to GO AFTER the miscreants. One more thing an illegal border crosser would have to contend with.

A little proper thought will go a long way to making a fence that will WORK.

[for those that interested, I welcome to the U.S. any and all that immigrate here the legal, lawful, honest, peaceful, orderly way. All others stay away. If you resent a fence, it is your own doing!!!]

This looks like a good proposal; America first and not Mexico first.
I would like to see landmines in a broad belt behind another fence.
There was reported, as if it had happened recently, some occasion where Swiss border guards pushed refugees back into a river as they were climbing out, leaving them to drown.
Another incident was mentioned in the obituary of a British officer who turned back refugees into the Russian zone and was demoted for this, as he could have used a certain defiance of standing allied policy, to waive them through.
With landmines there is no human discretionary factor to blame, the policy stands in its ideal abstractness, and those who say this is cruel, have to blame then the entire nation for holding to its sovereignty.
A nation either has the sovereignty to defend its security perimeters, or it doesn't. When individual discretion is introduced as a possible factor, the principle is obscured, and maudlin emotional considerations get to sap the sovereignty and national security.
A nation has to have full power to screen out hostiles, or the officials involved in giving to foreigners this screening function are derelict in highly treacherous degree.
