This is coolbert. In a previous blog I mentioned the determined group of men-a-foot engaging and vanquishing by team effort a mounted, armored knight. You know from before: Two men with long forked poles, one man with a mallet, one man with a dagger. Unhorse the knight and kill with a stab to the arm pit.

There is a modern parallel to the men-a-foot vanquishing the mounted, armored knight, that being a team of highly trained, resolute, modern infantry engaging attacking enemy tanks with their own resources.

Again, as with the men-a-foot, the modern infantry engaging in such combat must be the most resolute and determined of fighters, trained, and counting on the efforts of one another to succeed. This is dangerous stuff. Intuitively so!!

A modern infantry team engaging an enemy tank would do so in this manner:

[keep in mind that the team would in all likelihood be operating as part of a group of teams engaging multiple enemy tanks at the same time. Each team would be target and engage a single tank as it's part of the mission].

Two members of the team bring automatic weapon and rifle fire to bear on the target tank, causing the tank crew to "button" up [this greatly reduces the tank crews visibility. Within the space closest to the tank itself is a "blind" zone. The tank crew, when buttoned up can not see what is happening close to the tank].

Another member of the infantry team will then put smoke on the tanks, and continue to do so during the engagement. This further obscures the vision of the tank crew.

The remaining two members of the infantry team will rush forward to destroy the enemy tank. Using light anti-tank weapons, mines, satchel charges, thermite grenades and flame weapons.

This attack will continue until the target tank is destroyed.

The mission will then continue, targeting other enemy tanks.

It may be, that during the attack by the two team members upon the tank itself, that they will rush forward and enter into the blind spot of the tank itself. They actually would be able to reach out and touch the tank itself, and maybe will do so. Being close as possible is a defense.

As I have said, this is really dangerous stuff!! Can result in very heavy casualties! But can be very rewarding to a team of highly trained and resolute infantry working as a team!

coolbert.
