Military Officers getting into trouble over things they said

It does surprise me that such persons of high rank would be so stupid to expose themselves to circumstances that portray them negatively, but it does happen.

The problem here is that most of us speak our minds freely. And we are speaking only to a few people.

Being interviewed by the media is a much different form of communication. If the person being interviewed is open and frank, they likely will get into trouble. That is why you see so many public presentations by public officials carefully saying nothing. The skill is to say nothing that will get you or your organization into trouble while not appearing to be ducking the question. A difficult skill for anyone to master.
